What is out-of-band management?
It is an access path to network equipment that does not depend on the production link. If a switch or a firewall stops responding over the main network, the team enters through the out-of-band route to diagnose and recover without traveling to the site.
What is a serial console and when do you need one?
It is a local management port used to configure a network device or a server without using its network interface. You need it during initial setup and when the device does not respond over the network. A console server provides that same access remotely.
How does independent access help when the main network fails?
The out-of-band route stays available because it does not share the link that failed. It lets you reach switches, firewalls, and servers to fix a configuration or reboot. With 4G and LTE failover at the branch, the site also stays connected while the main link is restored.
